Subject: Computer keeps restarting!OS: windows 2000CPU/Ram: 800Mhz Intel P3, 128Mb RA |
Comment: Has anyone encountered this problem before? i have a P3 intel 800mhz with a compaq 300w power unit and 128MB ram. thing is since 4 days ago the machine would load up till the desktop and then it would restart. after several consecutive restarts it stops displaying entirely but i notice that my keyboard and drive lights do come on briefly. the hdd light is on. i have cleared the CMOS and it works for a bit but starts restarting again. I have formatted my hdd now cannot even load the OS. Can anybody help or give clues on what to do?Im at my wits end

Reply: (edit)Sounds like your CPU might be overheating. Have you checked the heatsink/fan on the CPU? First, make sure the CPU fan is still turning - a thick blanket of dust can clog the unit, or the fan bearings may be shot. Even if the fan is still working, it may be time to clean the dust out of it.

Reply: (edit)check you ram too. even though i dont think ram could "break" out of knowhere, you can give it a test shot cuz faulty ram does do that.
