Reply: (edit)Reminds me of an old mechanic's expression about how tight to do up a bolt. Just before it strips. I'm no OC participant but the maximum limit would depend to some extent on other variables such as Vcore adjustment and Enhanced cooling. Did a bit of reading on the subject but couldn't find any reference to overclock limits. Just a few reviews of the processors that convinced me to stick with my P4. (I'm not trying to start an argument here) Are there two different versions of the processor? One of the reviews mentioned Vcores of 1.6v and 1.65 Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Reply: (edit)mine is a athlon 2000+ xp(t/bred) currently at 133/12.5, vcore 1.60-1.65. The cpuid is 0681 so I think mine is the newer 1cos the other model 8's cpuid is 0680.I can adjust the vcore to about 1.725 if needed.Ive read somewhere that they o/clocked it to 1.8gig(currently at 1.67 by default) but I put mine to 2gig(150/12.5) for about 15 mins and it seemed fine but I didn't want to risk it any longer withiut knowing it was safe.So if anyone could give me a limit I would be very gratefull.BTW richard59, a 2000+ xp(1.67gig) benchmarks better than a p4(2.2gig). Reply: (edit)I forgot to add that my cpu cooling is rated 3gig+ and I have an extra case fan.At the mo my cpu temp doesn't go above 38'c and I believe the max temp it can take is 90'c(according to amd tech docs). Reply: (edit)There is no pat answer to that question...as Richard59 pointed out, there are a lot of variables. To name a few... PSU - wattage & amperage (especially +12v rail), not to mention quality. Motherboard - chipset type & board settings (jumpers and/or DIP switches). Some overclock well, some don't. BIOS - setting options (FSB, RAM timings, voltage, PCI/AGP). Some are an "overclocker's delite", some are "barebones". CPU - core type & voltage setting (goes back to board/BIOS settings). Once again, some overclock well, some don't. RAM - speed, type & quality (also goes back to board/BIOS settings). Cooling - proper case fan configuration, adequate HSF, & proper thermal material application. Not to mention, the knowledge of the person assembling the above components. Reply: (edit)All I can tell you jam is that temp won't be a problem.Ive got qtec noiseless cooler hsf 3gig+ and an aerocool staticx noiseless cooler as a case fan. For the other varients........God knows lol.My board is quite modern, it has "Hybrid booster"if you know what that is.my 12+ is at 12.1??, vcore is on average 1.625 but like I said I can increase that.Cheap ram, cheap psu(350w max)agp 8x.thats about all I know.Any suggestions? Reply: (edit)You're not understanding a few things... PCI/AGP are designed to run at 33/66mhz & these speeds are tied in to the FSB. Most newer boards have a setting in the BIOS to lock these at their default speeds...if you don't have that option, they'll both overclock along with the FSB. For example, at 133mhz (266FSB), the PCI is 1/4 FSB speed (133/4 = 33). If you increase the FSB to 150mhz, you PCI speed will increase to 37.5mhz (150/4). Tests have shown that things tend to go flakey when the PCI speed hits about 38mhz or higher, that is why board manufacturer's begin adding PCI/AGP settings to the BIOS...basically to cater to overclockers. As for the amperage on the +12v rail...I don't think you're giving me the amperage, seems like you're giving me the reported voltage. Amperage ratings are usually printed on the label on the side of the PSU. I have no idea what "hybrid booster" is.... Asus A7N8X-X 1800+ @8x210mhz 512mb PC3200 Ti4200/8X 128mb WDC 60GB

Reply: (edit)yes mate, I can change the speed of my pci clocks(currently at 32). From what I know hybrid booster is some form of overclocking support. My mobo is disigned for overclocking, its the asrock k7s8x r3.0 ASROCK K7S8X M/B AMD ATHLON 2000+XP 384MB DDR 266MHZ GEFORCE4 AGP8X 64MB MAXTOR 4R060L0 60GB H/D LITEON SOHW-1213S DVDRW SAMSUNG SM-332B CDRW/DVD QTEC AND STATICX SILENT COOLERS

Reply: (edit)"The maximum you can set the fsb of an athlon 2000+ xp(T/Bred) is...................?" Around 2.5ghz - the same as the max ghz the cpu will run at. For the last decade all fsb's have been underclocked versus the cpu speed in order to accomodate slow motherboards and memory (this is why the multiplier was invented) but the tbred itself could handle an fsb that is as fast as the cpu itself. Sorry that this answer is accurate academically but worthless practically.
