Complete system shutdown, please help

Specs: Windows Vista Home Premium, ?/3 GB
Recently, I was playing a game called GunZ. Everything was going fine until I got a red dithered screen, and lost all controllable function of my computer. I did a 5-second hold shutdown. When I tried to restart immediately after, it failed - the PC turned on but the monitor showed nothing, and was the power button was blinking. It also found no signal even though I am sure my chord is both secure and functional. A little later, I managed to restart my computer, It gave me the message that windows failed to start, do I want to check the problem (not word for word), and I did. It did some weird stuff, rolled back my computer, and it was all good. Then, randomly, while browsing the web, the area around the mouse became striped in a box shaped area, and programs started to not respond, then everything just froze exactly where it was, and it has yet to restart from that moment.

I have much work on the computer, on top of school work, resumes, and other priceless items on there, please help me! It would mean everything to me.

There could be many causes for your problems-likely culprits are the power supply or the RAM. Could you give more specs on your computer ? Is it a brand name(HP, Dell, etc.) ?
