Quite simply, which one is better? XP2600+ vs Pentium4 2.6.

------

Or not simply : Which PC?

Pentium 4 2.6
Radeon radeon 9600tx
512 ddr ram
120 gig hard disk
-=-=-=-=-=-
Athlon XP2600+
Geforce FX 128
1024 DDR ram
160 gig disk.

All other specs are the same. Both are £799, so which one do you recommend?

Thanks,
Chris.

I would recomend this one, if it was my choice I would definently buy this one

Athlon XP2600+
Geforce FX 128
1024 DDR ram
160 gig disk

1. the HDD is bigger
2. Much more memory which is a must considering next version of Windows is looking to have a minimum of 256mb Memory
3 That Athlon XP 2600+ could easily beat a P4 3.0GHZ and perhaps a bit higher

My Athlon XP 2100+ @ 1.76GHZ Palomino beats a P4 2.4GHZ B is most test I have done

Exelent PC specs on the Athlon, you won't regret having that one

id go with xp 2600 with nforce2 msi or asus mb 9700pro/9800pro 2 512 pc2700 cas 2 ram chips, 2 256mb would be just as good. id go with a 40-80 gb hard drive you'll never need anymore space but the higher ones are a bit faster but a s--- load more won't help games just load 10% faster hardly seems worth it.

The cpus are about a tie. The fx is hopefully faster than the 9600, plus It would be nice to see some business get thrown nvidia's way or else ati will own the market. Plus can't beat more disk and memory. I'd go with the athlon.

AMD one has slight advantage from the specs, but also check the speed of the harddisk. If the hd speed is higher (ex. 7200 rpm to 5400 rpm) in the p4 pc then buy that one.

I would pick the one with the Radeon. If they both used Radeons, I would choose the one with the better motherboard.

Definetly the Athlon, and I'm only saying this because of the bigger HD, more RAM, and (probably) a faster video card. Normally, I think P4s are better though.

Hey Zero Cool, do you know when the next version of windows will come out, and what's its name? I'd like to know more about that.

Hey insect, the new version of Windows is codnamed Windows Longhorn, Betta version should be out by Nov, Dec this year

Here is a good site

http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/longhorn_alpha.asp

Here is another

http://www.zolknetwork.com/windows_longhorn.php

Longhorn is going to be a fully 3D operating system unlike 98, 2000, ME, XP

According to most sites it will require a powerfull PC to run it

Something like

Minimum Specs

256mb RAM
300-400MHZ
32MB Graphic Card ( RECENT ONE )
1.8 - 2.5GB HDD space

So the layout will be kind of the same as XP but with some major changes new file system to, it won't use old FAT 32 or NTFS but a faster one and more stable one to

If those sites are no good, go to Google and type windows longhorn, it will come up with thousands of results

Goodluck

As I said all other specs were the same, so I only listed the diffs.

Let's just hope the shop deliver on time.

.....now, where to sell my old pc........?

Thanks,
chris
