Are your sure your motherboard supports the Barton core XP? Check the manufacturer's website before buying a new CPU.

There are three different 2600+ CPUs...two Tbreds (a 266fsb version & a 333fsb version), & one Barton. Of the 3, the 2600+/266fsb has the highest overall clock setting (2133mhz)...the 333fsb version runs at 2083mhz...the 2600+ Barton only runs at 1917mhz, but it has the advantage of twice the L2 cache (512k) of the Tbred (256k).

The 3000+ Barton comes in two versions. The 333fsb version runs at 2167mhz...the 400fsb version runs at 2100mhz.

Now...with all that said, is your upgrade cost-effective? Are you really gaining all that much over the 2600+ to justify shelling out $125-150 for the 3000+?
