I changed the cpu fsb setting in my amibios from 133Mhz to 161Mhz and now I can't get my computer monitor to come on when I turn the machine on. The fans and everything come on. I have a MSI K7 mobo with a via kt333 chipset, 512 DDR333 ram, AMD XP1800+ cpu, and a nvidia geforce4 420 vid card. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The computer was running fine at 133 fsb.

I can't change it back because the monitor won't turn on, therefore I can't get into the bios.

You'll have to pull the CMOS battery to reset the BIOS.

Science is Cool!

I don't know about AMIBIOS/MSI but with some mobos/BIOSes you can hold down the "Insert" key when booting and it'll boot with the factory default settings.

Also, there's usually a jumper or switch on the mobo that will clear any user defined BIOS settings and return to factory default ones.

BTW, I hope you weren't going from 133 MHz FSB to 166 in one big leap! You have to start out low and incrementally experiment your way upwards, running CPU/RAM-intensive tests in between to check on stability.

I've been experementing with my FSB settings once too. I had the same problem. To solve it i simply took my CMOS battery out for a few seconds and put it back in. Do same. It will bring default settings on. You will have to go to BIOS and set right FSB, voltage.
Good luck

pulling the battery does NOT work for all mobo's. look at your mobo manual por go to thier website ans find out exactly how to do it but, you DO need to clear your bios for sure.

Pulling the battery resets the BIOS on all the MOBOs I’ve ever worked with (Tyan, FIC, Gigabyte, Dell, IBM, Freetech, ASUS).

I had to pull the battery and clear the cmos it took about 5 -10 jumps to clear it and you could see the spark with every jump across the jumpers. When it stopped sparking the Cmos was reset. Trust me Gigabyte board

Some boards can take a while to reset after removing the cmos battery. Watts is right...check your motherboards website or documentation to see the best way to reset your board.

How about instead of arguing over pulling the battery, just set the cmos jumper to clear for 10 seconds, switch it back and then boot??? And yeah, it'd probably be a good idea to unplug the system and ground yourself before you touch the board. RTFM!!!
