Subject: Celeron upgrade or overclock
OS: Win 98, ed #2
CPU/Ram: Celeron 533,socket 370,25
Comment:

I have a two year old HP Pavilion Model #6635:

- 533MHz CPU [Intel (R)Celeron, socket 370],
- with 128 KB (L2 cache) and Intel (R) 810 chip set,
- (MoBo monogramed "Cognac" and has jump markings J1, J2,J3,J4,J5,J6,J7 and J8; however, all "J" positions (except J6) have no pins at all. I assume they come from the factory with pins clipped off and soldered over. I also assume that the J6 pin set is likely for the BIOS; however, I really don't know.
- Phoenix Bios 4, (Rev 6, v 1.09)
- 256 MB SDRAM PC 133

Would like to upgrade CPU to something faster (possibly 1GHz) or overclock the existing chip if CPU upgrade is not possible.
Please advise maximum upgrade specifications and/or O.C. technique and requirements. I'm sort of a newbie; however, I can follow instructions.

Sincerely, myyardbird@juno.com

From the link below it looks like you max out at a P3 800mhz. The P3 will cost you maybe $100 usd - not great bang for the buck there. You could pick up a cpu/motherboard combo for that much and get an Amd xp1800+.

Here is link for Celeron overclocking...
