Subject: Celeron 1.7 overclock question

Comment: Using a Celeron 1.7 on a Microstar MS 6533 motherboard. Have been trying to overclock the CPU VIA the BIOS, however no matter how I set the clock and frequency within the BIOS, the boot screen always shows the processor as a Pentium 4, at 1.7 MHZ. Is the CPU "locked" at 1.7 MHZ? Any ideas or suggestions welcome.

Reply: (edit)Intel CPU's are multiplier locked, so you have to raise the FSB. I don't know what the boot up screen shows, but I know that they are often inaccurate. Mine shows 1496Mhz on my 1.5 Ghz AthlonXP, and I know its exactly 1.5 Ghz and not 1496 Mhz. You can see what speed your CPU actually is by downloading WCPUID, just do a google search for it and you'll find it. I think the latest version is 3.0g, but I haven't checked in a while.
