You can't overclock most OEM systems, at least not thru the BIOS. Try searching for overclocking software.

using the nTune because i already had it on
my computer it auto clocked it to 2640.00mhz
for 2401.00 is this ok? and it has my memory(
dual channel ddr2 800) running at almost 900
are these ok on stock fan?

I don't know which CPU you have but I know there were no single core A64's that ran at 2.5GHz. Until the Brisbane core was introduced, all AMD CPUs ran at even number core speeds (2.2GHz, 2.4GHz, 2.6GHz, etc).

I just dug up the eMachines specs & you apparently have an A64 3800+ that runs at 2.4GHz (12 x 200MHz). So if you've increased the CPU speed to 2.64GHz, you must have bumped up the freq from 200MHz to 220MHz.

Cooling-wise, I doubt you'll have a problem. The major drawback with most software overclocking is you generally can't adjust all the rest of the buses (memory, PCI-e, HT multi, etc) that are affected when the CPU frequency is increased. That's what will limit your overclock. If you were able to lock the PCI-e at 100MHz, lower the RAM speed to 667MHz & drop the HT multi to 4X, I'm sure you could get more out of it. But my guess is you're pretty much maxed out.

Like I said in my other response, when you raise the CPU frequency, it affects EVERYTHING. Your RAM is probably running at 880MHz & the HyperTransport bus at 1100MHz. The PCI-e & PCI buses are also running out of spec. All of these will limit the overclock & can affect system stability.

If you had a "normal" board that allowed full BIOS adjustments, you could lock the PCI-e/PCI at their defaults so you wouldn't have to worry about them. You could then lower the RAM to 667MHz & the HT multi to 4x...that would allow you to increase the CPU frequency to 250MHz. The result would be the CPU would run at 3.0GHz, the RAM at 800MHz & the HT at 1000MHz. A CPU voltage increase would also be necessary.

Unfortunately, most of these adjustments aren't available thru software overclocking.

O yeah i was able to lock the PCI and i can
lower the HT multiplier but in order to up
the processor i have to do the memory as well
via my software.

I think i will be getting a new mobo soon Can
you recommend one that will hold the current
processor and a dual or tri-core later on
also i Need it to run my SATA hardrive.
