Subject: cant change 400fsb to 800fsb - bad?
OS: xp pro
CPU/Ram: p4-2.0 /768
Comment:

I have a Sony desk top PC using a P4-2.0 gHz cpu running on 400fsb - i see that there are replacement CPUs of same socket up to 3.06, but they are 800fsb and I cant find any way to change the clock speed on my motherboard or bios. Can i make this CPU change and gain any speed or is it a waste to under clock the (bus???) speed???

An Intel 400FSB CPU runs at 100MHz, a 533FSB CPU runs at 133MHz, & an 800FSB CPU runs at 200MHz.

I believe a 3.06 is a 533FSB CPU.

Regardless, if you install an 800FSB CPU in a board that only supports 400FSB CPUs, it would only run at 1/2 it's rated speed...but chances are, an 800FSB CPU wouldn't work at all

Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB
WinME/WinXP Pro SP2
