Can you have too much voltage?

I got my XP 1800+ up to 148FSB but I had to up my voltage to 2.000v to get it there stable. Is there a point to when I can have too much voltage? Or should I just keep an eye on my temps? Which are fine by the way, I have CPU Idle running so it's stays at about 27c, only gets up to about 50c full load with my Volcano7+ on medium speed. I noticed a performance increase after I hit the 1.7GHz mark and I would like to keep it there.

having too much voltage can be bad. Higher voltage makes the processor run hot. You should change the voltage to the lowest setting until it runs stable.

K, I'll try to lower it a little and see if it still runs stable. Do think the voltage I have it at now is OK?

if you check the AMD website for your chip it actually lists the voltages it will run safely.it will take some searching but its there.I looked up my 1.4 a while back

If temp is the ONLY issue with higher voltage, you’re doing pretty well.
When I wrote AMD about a temp issue, they made a big deal out of keeping the voltage of my Athlon 1.4GHz at 1.75. Document 24309 from AMD gives the technical information for Athlon XPs. They suggest a maximum DC voltage above nominal of 50mV, which would be 1.80!

If you cooked the CPU right now you’d only be out $100.
The longer you play with it before you cook it, the cheaper it will be.
Maybe by the time you burn it up, you’ll be able to get an XP 2100+ for that price!

If you're machine is running stable at that voltage, and the temps are around 30c, I'd say don't mess with it, just enjoy ;)
Summary: I am not sure I agree with the last post. CPU voltage core changing is very necessary for overclocking and overclocking is alive and well in these days. 750 - 1500? I started my latest machine at 1...
Summary: Yes I would guess that a slk900 with a 42cfm 92mm fan would keep you in the 30s, but it depends on the temp in the room. Personally I do not favor 92mm fans in place of 80mm fans for heatsinks (other ...
