Comment:

I want to upgrade my CPU from an AMD Athlon 850Mhz 200FSB, Socket A at 133Mhz, on an ASUS A7V-VM Rev 2.02MOtherboard, Chipset: Via KT133. It has a Tahiti-ULA Software Build ID 11NABHPZ04 Date: 19-Jan-01 BIOS In a HP Pavilion xl844. 185 Watt Power Supply. I cannot find if this is upgradable anywhere(HP, ASUS) There is no range information to go by. Would it be possible to go to a 1 GB or 1.2, if so which and do I need a different cooling fan?

Thanks in advance.
Ty

Your 185W power supply is inadequate. An upgrade would most likely fail due to not enough power. 250-300W minimum is recommended.

On a similar note, I have the same board, with an AMD Athlon 1.3gHz processor. Can I just plug in a 1.7 or 1.8 as an upgrade or is there more work involved?

I've got a HP Pavilion 360n, it has the Asus A7V-VM, and I've got an Athlon XP2000+ chip in it. Works perfect. Make sure you put a 300watt or greater power supply in tho...

5184-3961
78.99
185 watt power supply (Chewbaka Plus, Delta DPS-160GB-B) -
100-127VAC and 200-240VAC input (switch selectable), 43-66Hz - Total
of 9 output connectors

I have an xL844 and i've done my researching talking to HP tech's and all, My HP Pv xL844 w/ T-Bird 850 is upgradable to a 1.4GHz 200FSB, that is how much the MOBO will take I guess with the current power supply... I've been thinking of gettign a new case and with it new power supply, the Tahiti-ULA is an OEM mod for HP from ASUS and is hard to get info on it... I ahve a .pdf concerning information on it... I don;t know how you got your MOBO to get the 2000+ if the .pdf doesn't say anythign about the XP series CPU's.... it says it takes Durons/Anthlon's....

I have a HP 8760 with the 1 GHz Athlon, on the Asus A7V-VM motherboard with Via Kt-133 chipset.
The only problem I have, is when I´m gaming, I have A bluescreen.
It says it is the display driver that causes the bluescreen. I have a GeForce3 Ti-200 with the latest driver from Nvidia.
Is there any one who knows what to do???
I have heard that it is the chipset that causes the problem, but I do not know...
Please HELP Me!

Does anybody know where I can pick up a good used Delta DPS-160GB-B or any 160 to 185 watt Hewlett Packard/Delta Electroncis Power supply? I don't want to buy a new one from HP. If any of you are willing to part with one PLEASE let me know ASAP, Thanks

The Delta DPS-160GB-B at 185w can be replaced from HP. But it is an ATX power supply, so why not upgrade like to an Antec 250w (PP253X $35-40) or 300x (PP303X $45-50). These or similar are at stores like PCConnection, Insight, Outpost or CompUSA.

I just picked up an HP with this mobo at Sam's for $500(customer return). It came with an Athlon XP 1600+ (1.4 GHz). So I would say it's fairly upgradeable with a larger power supply.

Hope that helps :)

I have a 250w power supply, and i was wondering whether it was safe to run an Athlon XP 1800+ on an MS-K7N420 m/b with DDR Ram, along with a single 40gb HDD, a CD-Rom, floppy and CD-RW drive.

I've just bought this motherboard and an Athlon 900MHz processor from a local computer fair for £63GBP($100US approx). Problem is I've no manual and no connector for what looks like the onboard conexant modem daughterboard. I'm using my old PCI modem to send this mail. Does anyone have a manual in electronic format that they could send me? I'd also like to upgrade the bios so if you know where I can get the latest bios I'd appreciate it. I tried the HP site but could not find any reference to this motherboard.

I got this Tahiti Board(Asus A7V-VM) with a 1.2 Athlon in it. It's an HP Pavilion xl876. I have already upgraded the power supply to 300 watts cause 185 is a joke. I however am getting CMOS checksum errors even though I just replaced the battery. Th epower supply is not causing this because my checksum errors started before I upgraded the power supply. I am wondering how far I can actually upgrade this AMD processor to....

Hi all,

I have an off-subject question since you all seem to have the A7V-VM motherboard, I have an HP XT938 with XP Home and I switched to 98SE and I was wondering if any of you know where I can get drivers for the onboard sound and onboard ethernet??? Please e-mail me about this asap, Thanks!

Tony

any of you guys claiming to be running
xp cpu's on this board are crack heads!
the board has a 200Mhz front side bus.
xp cpu's use a 266Mhz front side bus.
you CAN install an xp cpu, and it WILL boot
up and run normally.
BUT, lets say you have a 1600+xp cpu.
they run at 1.4Ghz.
now, lets say you install this cpu
on this board.
since the CPU multiplier is set to 10.5
and the front side bus is only 200.
YOU WONT GET OVER 1Ghz.
the cpu will run only at 1Ghz.
you went out and spent $300 on an xp 2000+?
now your cpu only runs 1.35Ghz
get a clue kids!
