Subject: Can this be possible?
OS: Win XP
CPU/Ram: 2800+/512 ddr
Comment:

I've been OC'ing my system (A7V8X-X, AMD Athlon XP 2800+, Thermalright SLK-947U, 512 ddr ram) at this moment I've OC'ed to 12.5x189/88 I get 2362.49 MHZ out there, but evertime I go over 200 for the system clk it's bug! I've tried with a LOWER multipliers (11.0 - 11.5 - 12.0) and nothing, can somebody advise me about this, is the system clk 200 the max. for my system or have to try with the "memory time" (2.5-3-3-7) of the "VCORE" (1.68 v), but how? I get the ? about the memory timing, I've been reading for 2 dayz about that but the VCORE's a big ? for me!!!!

Thx guyz!!!

1) I had that motherboard before and i couldnt get about 170 and be stable, just not a good overclocking board

2) You never said what kind of memory or the speed. I really think its just the board though from my experience

The multiplier on your 2800+ is probably locked at 12.5x...changing it should have no effect, & there's no way to unlock it.

If you don't have PC3200 RAM, that may be what's holding you back...possibly need to experiment with RAM timing. What is your RAM voltage? If it's set to 2.5v, try it at 2.7v. You may also need to raise your CPU voltage...but from what I've read, most can overclock to 200mhz FSB without having to increase it.

Jam, Thx, I can change my multiplier to lower of higher, it'sn't locked, the problem is the sys. clk I can't increase it higher than 200 mhz!

My CPU voltage's 1.70v

You still haven't said what speed RAM you have or RAM voltage? When you say you can't go higher than 200mhz FSB, is that beacause of instability, or because that's as high as it will go in the BIOS?

sorry, forgot!

Speed ram 380 mhz and the ram voltage's 1.650v

When I try to go higher than 200mhz it's don't boot windows, it said something like:"C:windows\system33\config\system is missing of damaged"! Win XP

If the multiplier is locked changing the setting will have no effect and it will still be 12.5x
First set it to 12.5 check the speed (2300)
Then set it to 10x and check the speed if it stays 2300 its locked if it goes down then its unlocked.
My 2500+ can run 440 front side bus over 2400 and is locked at 11.5x good luck

LOL...you still didn't answer what RAM you have. I didn't mean what speed you're running it at, I meant what speed is it rated for...is it PC2100, PC2700, PC3200? And your RAM voltage (VDIMM) is not 1.65v...maybe your CPU (VCORE) is 1.65v, but not your RAM...DDR runs at 2.5v, but most have more success in overclocking when setting the voltage to 2.7v

And I agree with Rob...just because you set the multiplier higher or lower doesn't mean it's actually changing. The Barton's multipliers have been locked since week 39 of production...if you bought your CPU recently, chances are very good that it's "muliplier locked"

jam, sorry but all those words are new for me!

I'd checked for those words and now I know:
PC2700 memory speed and 2.7v!

I can change my multipliers (the speed change too), so I don't think that's locked.

Now the settings're 12.5x190.38, 1.7 vcore, 2.5-3-3-7 memory time and I get 2374 Mhz clk speed.

If you're CPU is unlocked & you wanna get your FSB even higher, try lowering your multiplier....maybe 11.5 x 200FSB for starters. Your memory may be what's holding you back though...PC2700 is designed to run at 166mhz/333DDR...it may or may not run at 200mhz/400DDR. You may have to upgrade to PC3200 (DDR400) to hit the 200mhz FSB limit or just be content with the speed you're running at now.

I was running 12.5x190.38, 1.7 vcore, 2.5-3-3-7 memory time and I get 2374 Mhz clk speed and windows blocked tweece! Now I'm running 12.0x185/38 but with 3-3-3-7 and I don't have any problem. 2256.24 Mhz at this moment! I think the memory's the problem but I gonna check once again with 3-3-3-7!

The one rule in overclocking, set the memory timing to the most relax settings like 3-4-4-8-8.

Deal with timing after you get the highest FSB. This will isolate if memory is the bottlenect, which is not something that you could do except getting (buying another brand or higher speed).

Then, overclocking is for people who don't pay for extra.
