Comment: Let's say a game requires 3.0GHZ CPU minimum. And I have a 2.8GHZ CPU. Will overclocking it to 3.0ghz or beyond meets the minimum cpu requirement of the game? Reply: (edit) Yes, it should run the game but you might have to leave some graphic settings down unless your game card is able to run it fine. You could also turn uneeded programs in the task bar. You also could tell programs not to start up again by going to Start, Run, type in msconfig and go to the Startup tab. Make sure you know what the programs do before unchecking them cause what ever It's linked to it will stop working.

Reply: (edit)I don't see games requiring that much power for a while, because if you look at dual cores and even the new Core 2 Duo Conroe cores they are all under 3ghz even the Core 2 Duo EE. I mean the lowest Core 2 Duo coming out is like 1.8ghz. I'd hate to be a game programmer, because for the longest time games were made around mhz and ghz speed, but since cpu technology has advanced a lot in the past 3 years now it becomes a diff story. Instead of depending upon how fast your cpu ghz is, it's going start to become how much can your cpu do at once instead. The whole requirments of a program will need to be changed in the future for this very reason. Reply: (edit)I am assuming this is a hypothetical question right? What game as of now requires a 3.0Ghz CPU or equivalent to run it? I would also guess that it said "recommended requirements" and not "minimum requirements". If you have an 2.8Ghz CPU raising it by 200Mhz to 3.0Ghz is not gonna make any difference, its purely psychological at that piont. -STUPID QUOTE OF THE DAY-"I have opinions of my own --strong opinions-- but I don't always agree with them."
