I would look into an AMD K6-3 500 MHz processor upgrade for your Pentium 1 system.
You could also replace the motherboard/processor/RAM for more money and get more speed.
You can add a scanner now, but the scan spped will be very slow compared to a new high speed system.

sorry, I am not yet fully computer literate!. Do you mean motherboard?. If so, I don't have a clue what it is. Is there any way I can find out without routing around inside my computer?.

It does not have USB which means you might need a SCSI scanner and a SCSI card or a USB card and WIN98 or higher for your OS. Allegedly, WIN95B supports USB but I’ve only seen that work once on my kids’ old Dell, which coincidently was a P1 200MHz with 64MB RAM. We ran USB scanner off that but it ran SLOW.
I think this computer has a very short upgrade path and I think you’d be better off buying a new computer than trying to upgrade this one.
