Comment: I have an AMD-K6 333Mhz (I think). I recently purchased a game which needs 350Mhz. I would like to upgrade by only changing the cpu. What options do I have? Can I upgrade to an AMD-K6 350Mhz or something a little faster without changing the motherboard? Thanks. Any info will be appreciated. ragland

Reply: (edit) It all depends on what motherboard you have. Find the make and model number of your motherboard and do a search for it on the manufactuer's web site. They will tell you up to what processor speed the mobo supports. Worst case senerio you can just purchase a new motherboard they are really not that much. I needed a replacement for a amd 700mhz and picked up one on ebay for like 30 bucks the the slot a processor was like 15 bucks. If you have a motherboard that has jumpers to increase the fsb or jumper emulators in the bios you can push it up a little if you are only trying to get like 17mhz more clock speed and that will cost you nothing but you will need a motherboard schmatic on the manufactuer's web site.

Reply: (edit)I'm not sure about the motherboard. I'm pretty sure it is a socket 7 motherboard. The BIOS ID is: ACR5D000-M12-98062-R01-C2 R0 EN The Chipset is: ALi M1531 rev 179 V58XA 97114-2N 48.38401.02N was printed on the motherboard. Can anyone help me figure out what motherboard I have? Thanks again. Ragland
