i want to upgrade my processor, i have a p2 450 an want something heeps faster, can anyone tell me if i can simply remove and replace my processor without changing the motherboard!!! it is a Board: i440BX-ITE8671
Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. 4.51 PG 12/17/98
any info would be tops!
Thanks.

you cant just slap in a new processor. firstly u need a m/b that has a fsb clock that can run a p4 and a m/b with a socket 478 that the p4 can fit into

You should be able to get a Skt370 Celeron 1000 with a Coppermine core running in it, you may be able to use the later Tualatin core'd Celerons, but that involves more work, and there is no guarantee that it will work.

yes you can go ahead and waste they money on a proessor that wont even fit in the slot. dont be so damn cheap. spend an extra $80 and get a p4 mobo.

Mostly a slot 1 PII 450. You'd better get a new P4 board. It costs as low as $40 for the SIS645 DX, Asus, MSI offer them in very low cost.
P4 Celeron costs only $60. Or, go with AMD setup. You would end up with a much better system.

are you serious?
do some research....
it sounds reasonable common sense that you couldn't do what you want...

If you are tight no cash, get an Athlon and Athlon motherboard!
Isaw a 1600XP WITH motherboard for $89 at computer fair. Online it is gonna be cheaper!
For $74.13 you can get an ATHLON 2000XP with motherboard!!!! And add $40 for 256 meg ram, what more do you need? Seriously, you should take your motherboard, ram and cpu, bundle it together on ebay, get some cash for it, spend some more and upgrade your machine. That's what I do. Upgrade means bit by bit, and it is not expensive if you do it in stages!

I appreciate you want to upgrade, firstly ascertain wether or not with a BIOS upgrade supports a 133fsb as well as 66 and 100fsb. You should be able to pickup a 800fsb Slot1 PIII second-user on EBAY, or alternatively a Slot1 to 370 Slocket, you need one with support for 133fsb and auto settings, therefore it may be possible to go to a 1gig celeron.
Though truthfully you would be able to buy a second-user AMD mobo and Athlon CPU as cheap, good luck........

if u have a slot one i know for certain u can get a 1.2 ghz processor and maybe a 1.4 ghz.
go to the powerleap web site and take a look

You maybe able to go up to a coppermine as is written above and they go up to 1,1GHz, either Pentium3 and Celeron.
You need:
- A bios update that will detect that cpu!
- Your board has to support 1,5 to 1,75V VCore voltage for the cpu. (see *) below)
- an slot1 to socket370 adaptercard. There are different ones who support only FCPGA like my MSI 6905 Master Vers. 2.3 but lately I saw one that also supported Tualatin core up to 1,4GHz at www.powerleap.comProblem:
I know it works on my Asus P2B board (also slot1 with 440bx chip) but you can't be sure it will work on your board!
*)
There is a way around the VCore problem I used myself because you can get a special adaptercard where you can fix the VCore to 1,8V that the board should supply. If you get a cpu that works at 1,7 or 1,75V VCore that's only slightly higher and will work!
BTW:
I decided for a 733MHz Celeron and overclocked it. Run fine with up to 1232MHz but I think I was a bit lucky at that!

800fsb P3? Damn, that's a good overclock - 8x if you started at 100fsb ;-)!
My suggestion? Pentium M. Both the RadiSys LS855 board and 1.3GHz CPU ain't cheap, but the Pentium M can compete with P4s 1GHz faster than it, and it's a LOT cooler and takes less power

No u canot it is like trying to give a ca a blood transfusion from a buldog it simmpl9y wont work or fit for that matter
