WOW! We just went thru all this with Jesse! Try scrolling down the list a little bit to find your answers. Here's the quick version:

You can run your 200 as a 233 just by changing your multiplier to 1.5x (yes, 1.5). If you have an older mobo with an Intel chipset that only caches 64mb of RAM, you're slowing your system by running 128mb.

I'll make it EZ for ya:

That's an odd question....isn't that what this forum is about? I still play with socket 7 stuff all the time...it's cheap & still very useable, but most people think if you're not run at least a 2.0Ghz, your system's a piece of crap. You can do all the basic tasks & surf the internet with a 200MMX...if you haven't used one...especially one that's properly setup, I think you'd be amazed at just how much you can actually do.

What I don't get is the people that buy a top of the line P4...what's it up to now? 3.2ghz or higher? & they swear it's STILL not fast enough & try to clock em up to 4.0ghz...LOL! Oh well..to each, his own....

You cannot overclock your Pentium MMX by increasing the multiplier thx to Intel that all Pentium MMX and higher are multiplier locked. You can increase the FSB to 75Mhz or 83Mhz and even 100Mhz if you have 100Mhz socket 7 motherboard.

Jam

If he just uses his machine for word processing and Internet. I'm sure that machine is more than enough to do the job. For those people thinks a Pentium 4 3.2Ghz is slow, they should not get a desktop then. Tell them to get a 4x AMD Opteron 2.0Ghz overclock to 2.4Ghz with 16GB OF ECC DDR400 RAM plus 4x 36.7GB 15000RPM USCSI320 HD running RAID. 7.1 SB Live Platium, 256MB ATI Radeon 9800 XT overclocked to max and The fastest CD Burner with the faster DVD Burner. Display would be 42in LCD pair up with Customized 500 watts 7.1 speaker with enhanced sub-woofer. Let see how that works compared to Pentium 4 4.0Ghz. And for people that own these system, what can they do? All they do is to do benchmark "Hey Hey Hey, my system got 30000 on 3D Mark2001 and 10000 on 3D Mark 2003, beat this score hahahahaahahahahahahaha. The next day, the super machine just sit on the desktop and rust as time pass by. Until somebody beat this score, the machine will never be used again. One word for people like this, WASTE OF MONEY!!!

I thought so...if I can oc a P60 to P66 then Bobber can play with his 200MMX.

Right?

Right!

And, internet browsing speed on IE 3.03 was visibly improved.

My p200mmx is and has been workin just fine but i was just curious if it would be worth it to over clock it?
Yes i can surf and do every thing I need with this unit, and I guess if it does what you want thats all that matters , to spend a G'note or more on a new system is crazzzzy!!!and to think i only paid $50.00 for it,
My thanks for all the replies !!!!

Try the 1.5x multiplier trick...chances are, it'll work. TMP-Man is correct that some MMXs were multiplier locked, but most were not. If you have the options of higher FSB though, try it at 75mhz. 225 w/75 FSB is better than 233 w/66 FSB anyway...

I think the lock started with PII 333 or 350. I think. I'm pretty sure that the multiplier isn't locked with the super socket 7's.
