Hello,
I'm just about to put together my first computer and I ordered a XFX KT400ANB mobo and a AMD 2500+ processor. I'll be using Ultra 2700ddr ram. I've never tried o/cing, but am very interested in it and have spent the last couple hours studying about it. I was wondering if this mobo will o/c well. I know the processor is a great chip to o/c so I'm pretty excited. Please let me know. I'm very interested in this. Thank you.

Nevin

If you plan on overclocking, best you have a look at Abits range on nForce2 based boards, they are the best for overclocking, you might also want to look at getting PC3200 RAM from a manufacturer like Corsair or OCZ.

What are the specs of your board? Many KT400 boards are 266FSB. The 2500+ is 333FSB. You may just "overclock", or if you will - overperform, the mobo to meet the processor and RAM and leave it at that. But you won't know till you try. Good Luck man. dark.

Sorry your over clocking possibilities don't look so good, all you can really do is raise the fsb.

Here, have a look Skip:

Thank you very much for all the responses. Yea the KT400 does have a 333fsb to match the processor and memory. That really rots symbios that I'd only be able to raise the fsb. How did you come to that conclusion? Like I said, I'm pretty new at this so I was just wondering. If I changed mobos later how would I pick a good o/cing one? Thank you.

I've been using response 4 in this recent thread lately as an example of good boards.
There are more:

Also, johnoh just posted a response you should commit to memory. Read this thread and memorize response 8:

There is a lot of good stuff like this to read on these pages. Read on while you're waiting for FedEx.

Thank you skip for the advice. I appreciate your friendliness. I've decided on selling the mobo that came with the barebone kit I bought and am going to buy a different one. I'm going to purchase an Asus A7N8X Deluxe. Many o/cers seem to be using this board and getting good results. What do you think is a good price to pay for this board and do you think getting it off of ebay is reasonable? Thank you.

The 8x goes for about a hundred bucks and the 8x deluxe for about 130 at computergate.com. You should be able to beat these prices. I'd try newegg first as they have about the best reputation out there.

Hey Skip (or anyone else) I just saw this mobo on ebay for a very good price. It's OEM, but I can download the drivers and manual off of the Asus site and it'll be fine right? Would you tell me if this is a good deal?? Thank you.

Sorry, but one more thing. This mobo has 5.1 sound intergrated. I don't think my case has the holes and things for this feature. Will my case still work for this mobo? It's a mid-tower chieftec case. Thanx.

Naw, 90 bucks on ebay? You can beat that and get a retail version too. Retail version should come with the plate for the case. Check on ASUS site to see what is included in the box.

I wonder where I could find it for 90? I checked newegg and they have it cheapest for 135 and tigerdirect is 140. Just in case you were wondering. If you happen to know of any other online retailers that may have it for cheap please let me know. Thank you.

Nevin

P.S. I'm itching to get started :-) (Can't ya tell)

Thank you guys so much for even looking for prices for me. BTW, I appreciate the idea of pricegrabber. I had forgotten about them. The Deluxe version of the Asus board I found for only 120. I found the refurb oem on newegg for 69. Do you think I should get the oem from there and say get most of the accessories from ebay for 29? Here's the link to those.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3429263953

It's only missing the ide and serial data cables. Or do you think I should just get it all together for 120? Thanx guys.
