Hey, im gettin a computer with a 2.53 ghz p4, a 512mb ddr ram chip set, a GF4 Ti 4600 n stuff . now is there anyway of "keeping" the same performance as this setup with cheaper models? i was thinking of going cheaper and ocing them but will it be the same????

Well the P4 1.6a is considerably cheaper and can hit 2200mhz with stock cooling no problem. You can even push it higher if you want. You can find many guides online showing how to do this for that chip and what boards are best for it. Trust me the chip is half the cost of the 2.5gighz chip you wanna get and the performance once OC'd will be close.
As for the vid card.. consider a GF3 Ti500, GF4 Ti200 or Radeon 8500 instead. You'll still get DX8 features, and blazing performance, and all cards can be OC'd for a lot better performance. Especially the 4200, it can hit 4600 levels easilly and is much cheaper :)

Thanks alot, you just saved me like 500 bucks
really appreciate it!!

ps-i cant find those processors around my place, do u no a site where i can order?
fanx

You can find them on Price Watch.
WRT your original question, an Athlon XP 2000 is about the same price as a P4 1.6GHz and is a much more powerful CPU

I am an AMD user but there's no need for such foolishly false statements. An XP 2000+ is more powerful than an P4 at 1.6 gighz, but the 1.6a P4 can overclock to 2200mhz and beyond with no extra cooling, which means no extra noisy fans (like us AMD users have to use) and it'll hit performance levels that XP 2000 can only dream of.
Good luck with the system and enjoy.

Maybe John.
Maybe not.
I think I’d take an Athlon XP 2000 running at rated speed over an overclocked P4 1.6. If you've got reference that shows an overclocked P4 1.6 beating out an Athlon XP 2000, please share it. I love AMD but I’m open-minded.
I suspect that your statement above is based on opinion and not fact.

Badoy, if you learned how to read and comprehend english you'd see my opinion was based on the fact that the p4 1.6a can easilly outperform the XP 2000+ with a lil overclocking and no extra cooling needed. An XP 2000 can obviously outperform it at stock levels, DUH, but he was asking for an overclocking solution, I gave him one. No one will deny that the P4's (1.6a+) are superior chips for overclocking to Athlon XP's. He mentioned he wanted a P4, I pointed him in what I beleive is the right direction. I'm an Athlon XP user myself (1800) but when it comes to sheer performance, you've have to be blind and a damn fool to realize that Intel has pulled away with a big performance lead, even with chips like the 1.6a which can so easially be OC'd to levels Athlon XP owners without extreme cooling solutions can only dream of. It's also more expensive, but I'm sure R/C Freak is already aware of that.
Take your AMD Fanboyism and go elsewhere, the best chip for you may be an AMD, but R/C it sounds to me like its an Intel.

Hey John:

You claim that I made “foolishly false statements”. I don’t believe I’ve stated anything false. Check this out:

You obviously aren’t very open-minded. And I don’t think you can back your OPINION.
As a cowboy John, I think you’re all hat!
Badboy
PS. R/C Freak, sorry we diverted your thread.

Hey guys/gals:
dont worry, I learned alot from your little "spheil" or however u spell it (argument!) Anywayz, i am looking for the most powerhungry chip and thats why i am going 4 the P4, it looks to me as if the AMD from recent experiences....hmmhmm...run very hot. So i am going 2 get the p4 power because i know that it runs cooler and can be overclocked to higher levels than that of an amd.. thank you for your time.
ps.... i meen a mobo, however i am looking at the p4s533 by asus? any other recomondations? remember i am ocing my p4 and my video card so i need a mobo that can handle it!! Fanx
