i have a old computer and i really need a new one and i probly wont be able to get a new one for another 5 to 6 years so i want to make this one really good. im not sure if i should wait for the new pentium or the new amd cpu to come out or just get one now. and if i should wait how long will i have to wait?

"i really need a new one"
If you really do need a new one, I'd buy one now. If you just want a new one, I'd wait a year or so to see where 64bit and pci express is going price wise.

Base on the 5-6 years purchase rule; you really don't have to wait. Get the best buy/performance today;
A64 S754 3000+; S754 will last for a few years yet.

Assuming you are not a heavy gamer (how could you be on 600mhz) a $350 computer will last maybe three years and a $1000 computer will last four years. They way to have a fast cheap comupter is to buy cheap new ones 5 times in the same time period that others are buying great ones twice.

lazyman and johnoh both make good points. I want 64bit and pci express and it's my choice to wait since I'm not forced to live with 600Mhz.
If I was living with 600Mhz, I'd:
Buy something like a 449 dollar Dell and save my money for a year or two.
or, if a gamer, look for something used in the local paper for about the same money.

If I were you I'd go out and get myself a cheap mobo combo for about $200 or less. Get a board in which you could keep your SDRAM for now to minimize your costs and a good processor (1.7GHz and better). Cheap investment right now and better performance (if your not a gamer). After about 2 years you can probably find something even better invest another $500.
TECHZAPORT OUT!!!

if it was me i would wait even though its tempting. i think pentium 5 is comming out soon but im not sure when. if you want you could create your own powerful computer. just wait dont buy now
