ok first of all my spec -
amd 2400+, Gigabyte GA-7vrxp, geforce3 ti200, 550W psu.Im trying to overclock my pc but i cannot get bus speed past 145 - as when i do the system tries to boot but doesnt actually get there - it will crash before it reaches windows. Now i think this is somehow related to my graphics card but not sure how....
i am able to change the clock speeds on my vid. card - and when decreasing them (i.e underclocking the graphics card) i am able to overclock my pc further. however, i need to have a good video card on my pc also as well as a fast cpu.
now im not sure if there is a setting in the BIOS which is causing the problem as i have tried them and come to no conclusive result.
I was hoping to push amd 3000 or at least amd 2800 from my cpu so please help me in this matter - thank you..
also my pc is currently stable at 145 X 15 with the graphics card at the factory speed setting. Im 90% convinced that the graphics card is the problem in the overclocking process for me - i can increase the AGP voltage which i did - but this made no diffrerence.
i have set the ram voltage at 2.7volts.
Also, the second problem i have is when i try to restart my pc it attempts to booot but cannot...i have to physically shut it down (from mains) in order to reboot my pc. I think once again a major contributor to this factor is some type of setting as i know the cpu is working and the fan is working and my HD can be heard spinning - but my monitor stays in standby -
please guys - if u can help with either problem please do so - thank you......
like i said before please someone help......

specs - asus a7n8x deluxe rev. 1.6, palomino 1800+, 2x256 winbond pc3200
I have the same problem, though I am running a Palomino 1800+. Palomino's aren't known for their overclocking abilities though. I hit a wall around 148MHz where the computer fails POST when I restart. The fans and HD's spin, but the monitor stays in standby just as in your situation.I really don't see how your video card would have anything to do with it. I imagine it is just a side effect of the real problem. What is your VCore set to? And are you experiencing your 2nd problem when overclocking, or is it unrelated?
Your computer may be locking up because your power supply isnt supplying quite enough power. What kind of quality is your 550W psu? Underclocking the video card might just free up enough current for the computer to POST and boot.
As for your RAM voltage, drop it back down. You are not overclocking it and it is a bad idea to raise its voltage when you dont absolutely have to.
In conclusion, the best way to OC (in my experience) is as follows:
1. set everything in bios to defaults
2. OC the fsb to desired level (usually 5 MHz at a time) and restart each time. Make sure you can POST. Also remember to keep the multiplier at the proper setting so as to keep the core clock speed close to its original speed. If you dont POST, raise, the VCore 1 setting. If that doesnt work, try another 1 setting. If that doesnt work, drop the fsb back down, you've gone too high.
3. Now we OC the core clock speed to desired level by changing the multiplier. 0.5x each time. Again, restart each time and make sure you can POST. If you cant, raise the VCore 1 setting. If that doesnt work, try another 1 setting. If that doesnt work, drop the core clock back down, you've gone too high.
4. Optimize memory timings. In your case, your pc3200 should have no problems. make sure it is in sync with your fsb by setting it to "100%" for best performance. If it is indeed good quality corsair RAM, you should get 2-2-2-6 timings at 200 MHz. I know my winbond 3200 can get those timings all the way up to 225 MHz. If those timings dont work, try timings in this order:
2-2-2-6
2-3-2-6
2-3-2-8
2-3-3-8
2-3-3-11
2.5-2-2-6
etc.
Those timings seem to have the best performance -in that order. (on my asus a7n8x at least)Good luck with the OC-ing. And, if I have said too much to insult your intelligence, I apologize. I only meant to cover everything.

no hard drive problem only happens when im overclcoking...
memory settiings wot does 2-2-2-6 mean?? i have a gigabyte mobo im sure that type of setting is only for ABIT mobo's - also how do u ensure that memory is in-snyc with my cpu setting
My Vcore was set to 1.78V which is the maximum i can do
i dont seem to be able to change my multiplier to anything other than the auto setting on my mobo - i dont have multiplier control in my bios
My psu is a Qtec 550W its never given me reaosn to question its integrity to be honest
cheers for help and no explaining everything will help me loads as im pretty new to overclocking.
Thanks - look forward to your relply
