I'm working on a computer for someone and it has these specs. Asus A8R-MVP, socket 939, ATI crossfire AMD X2 3800, overclocked to 2.4GHz. 2GB of dual channel PC3200 Enermax Liberty PSU
Before, it was working fine. Additional hardware required a newer BIOS version, so I flashed to the latest revision and then re-applied the overclocked settings. Now, instead of starting at 2.4GHz, it always starts at 2.25GHz on a cold boot (but switches back to 2.4GHz if I restart it from Windows). The bus speed is always 15MHz lower than it should be when it cold boots. For example, if I increase the CPU speed to 2.45GHz, then it always runs at 2.3GHz until I restart it. Cool and Quiet is disabled. What's wrong?

Apparently the newer BIOS had everything to do with it & I'm not sure what you can do to resolve it beyond reverting to the older BIOS which would affect the recently added hardware.
It won't even let me go back to any BIOS version older than what I have now (the DOS program says that the older BIOS is either too old or not compatible with the hardware).
I did contact Asus and they were of no help. Guess I could try the forums there.

I seem to recall ASUS having the easy update method of updating the BIOS - have you tried to use that Windows (NON DOS) method to overwrite the newer BIOS with the older one?
Thank you Saber! Using the Windows version worked (once I finally figured out that Vista wasn't compatible with EasyUpdate, lol). I knew I could count on computing.net. :-)
