You can try pressing the function key with one of the F buttons (F1,F2..etc). It mayt be stuck in projector mode. let me know if it works.

Compaq's often store some on the BIOS on the hard drive (I believe the Setup program) and god only knows what else they put in those infernal Data_Sav/diagnostic/recovery partitions (D:) that might be needed to boot the thing. If you can't enter the CMOS Setup that's a good sign the original D: partition got hosed. If this is the problem you can download their so-called Rompaq from the Compaq website. Always a joy.

Boojum, you're right in the aspect of compaq storing the BIOS setup utility on the hard drive.

But, the BIOS EEPROM is still on the motherboard and it's contents are used to "Wake" the board up. You can completely destroy the setup partition and it won't have any effect on the system booting.

Hookup an external monitor is step #1, from there if that don't work, start removing components one by one as part of disassembly applying power at each step looking for signs of POST.

Of course, this is considering this computer is no longer under warranty.

If it is, use it and take it back to where you bought it from.

Joe
