Hi,
The heatsink holds itself inplace by being hooked onto the ceramic chip grid arry. The hook on the ceramic broke off so i cannot secure the heatsink. Is there anyway of fixing this?

If you have the broken piece you can try to super-glue it back to the CPU housing.

Try using thermal adhesive to hold the heatsink to the cpu, if the heatsink is relatively light. I would be a bit iffy with glue on that clip. If it broke it woud wreck the CPU and whatever the heatsink falls on. (Assuming you have a tower)

Ouch I had this problem once. I'm glad that they switched the retainer setup off the processor scoket a while ago. If it was a modern day motherboard all you would have to do is unscrew the old retainer and buy another clip retainer, but since it's on the socket the best thing you can do is get some J/B Weld. That's one of the few compounds that will really work with high pressure areas. Super Glue will most likely snap like it did on me, that's when I bought some J/B Weld and let it sit for a day. It worked great.

Thanks for your replies guys. I'm glad to hear that i'm not the only one to have gone through this. But how frustrating this is, one small tiny bit is broken and the whole mobo can go in the bin...... I'll try your suggestions and hopefully I'll get one of them to work. Thanks again.......
