Broken acer aspire 5517 laptop - what do

Specs: Windows 7
I have a broken laptop - (specific laptop is in the question/problem area).
About a few months to a year ago, I fell with my laptop in my arms and broke it - but not TOTALLY. I then panicked and turned it on to see if it still worked and it turned on, but the screen was really, really dark and I could not see anything. Then, the next day I figured if I connected it to a monitor, it would work, and it did. I had it like that for an entire week. Then, it just stopped turning on at all. Then, thinking it was because maybe the charger broke, I bought a brand new charger for the computer and it did not work. I obviously do not want another laptop and I would like to know what I can do to fix it, or how much money it would be to get it repaired.

I wouldn't know how long you have it, but it is around for about 3 years now and although it normally should be good for another year or two at least, there is no real value to it at this point. You will need to take it to a technician who will give you a free or low cost evaluation before performing any work and get an idea of how much it will cost to repair. The problem is that we cannot tell what the damage is from here and most will have to open it to look for internal damage as well as loose connectors and test components. If your hard drive is the only significant problem, then replacing it and reloading Vista may cost you somewhere around a $100. - $120. (less if you can do this yourself), But it sounds like you have some video issues and that is on your motherboard and that will be too expensive to replace on an older laptop with labor. You may find out that the problem is very simple like a loose connector, but only an honest evaluation could find this out.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
