got brand new 817 with xp1700. one stick of 256 ddr. Read manual checked jumpers. no video, cpu fan, case fan, hd working. Floppy doesnt seem like its working. Thing done; switched cpu speed jumper, switched to sdram and changed jumper setting for sdram, tried to boot with only ram, floppy, and video attached in all cases, got 2 super fast beeps, then 8 beeps in a row, then 2 beeps, then one beep. Unable to test video card. Please help

is the mobo a PC CHIPS? cause i have a 817LMR from PC Chips and it sucks poop. one thing that might have happened is you didnt install the components properly. but even if you did install them correctly, the mobo sucks. if you ask me, switch the motherboard with something from asus.

i forgot to mention that in the pc chips website they say that the 817LR/LMR can handle up to xp 2000+...but in reality it will only support up to 1.4 GHz t-bird. trust me, i have a t-bird and tried switching with xp cpu. doesnt boot up...

When I tried the XP CPU the computer wouldn't post. I tried switching everything inside my PC and I guess that it was the CPU that was screwing everything over. So I switched the cpu back to my T-Bird 1.4 and everything worked perfectly. It still does work perfectly, but I still think that PC Chips is a bad company...
