My computer fails to boot properly the first time when I switch it on, there is no display. When I restart it, it shows the following error : Checking NVRAM...OVERCLOCKING FAILED. It gives me 2 more options, 1) Press F1 to Enter Setup (BIOS) 2) Press F2 to load from Default Setting. Any changes made to BIOS setting is not saved. If i press F2 my computer boots normally, but if I start or restart then the above problem persists. Kindly help me in this regard, thanks.

Seems like you overclocked your PC to such level which becomes unstable at that point... What were you trying to overclock your CPU to? If you are not planning to overclock, try to press F1 and go into the BIOS. There should be an option saying that "Load BIOS Default...". Try to use that option, press yes to comfirm and "Save and Exit". If the problem still presist, second choice would be to check your memory timing like set it to (SPD Serial Presence Detect), meaning auto detect RAM's optimal timing at that frequency. After that, set your CPU to Auto, i.e 2800+ A64 runs at 200x9=1800Mhz and sempron 2800+ run at 200x8=1600Mhz. Make sure your HTT is set to 4x and voltage to auto. Try these setting first and post any more problem you have if the above approaches doesn't work.

Well if everything tmp-man told you doesn't work, just clear the cmos manually in the motherboard (look at your manual for a "clear cmos" feature to see where it is in your mobo). That will reset everything to defaults.

Allow me to rephrase the problem. Hope this will be helpful.

1. CPU - AMD Athlon 64 2800+
2. Motherboard - ASUS K8S-MX
3. RAM - 512 MB DDR
4. Hard Disk - Seagate Baracuda 80GB SATA
5. Video Card - ASUS 9525G with 256 MB DDR Video RAM
6. DVD ROM Drive - Sony
7. No Floppy Drive
8. Operating System - Windows XP Professional - SP 1

My computer fails to boot properly when I switch it on. It shows the following message - Checking NVRAM .... Overclocking failed ! (I have not overclocked the CPU). It gives me two options - (1) Press F1 to enter Setup (BIOS setup). (2) Press F2 to load from default settings.

When I press F1, it enters the BIOS Setup program, If I change the boot priority or make any other changes and save the settings and try to reboot, the system fails to boot. The DVD ROM drive gets detected and after that the display remains blank. I have to shut down the system (by keeping the power switch pressed for 10 - 15 secs) and then try to reboot again (am back to square one !). None of the settings that were saved during setup are saved.

When I press F2, it boots normaly to the OS.

Kindly help me in this regard.

PS : I tried to load BIOS defaults, but to no avail.
