My computer is giving me a blank screen at boot up. I have removed the jumper and placed on different pins, removed the cmos battery for 2 minutes, all components are fitted, and the monitor was working as of last week.
As last week was disruptive, I wonder if it is possible for a cmos or bios to be erased? What would it take for this to happen? What else can I check to get the system up?

Is the computer actually booting up, i.e., do you ever get to a Windows 2000 splash screen, or do you just see a black window with a blinking cursor? What happened that was "disruptive"?
