Subject: Blank Boot after new mobo and CPUOS: XP ProCPU/Ram: AMD Sempron 2800+ |
Comment: I am/was running an asus mobo with an athlon 1.4ghz, two sticks of ddr and xppro. The cpu's heat sink clamp broke one night and the fan fell and fried the CPU...anyway, I replace the mobo and CPU. Now I have an ECS (I know, I know) and an Athlon 2800+. My video card is an asus GeForce3 Deluxe (V8200). And a 420 WATT p/s I installed the mobo and cpu, pressed power and everything starts, spins, but no beeps and blank screen. And when I first turn the pc on, the monitor light goes green for a quick second and then amber again. So somethings getting to it. Things I've tried: unplugging all usb/firewire/mobo cables reseating: ram/vga resetting BIOS trying both RAM sticks seperately Could my CPU frying have lead to any other parts frying i.e. the vga?

Reply: (edit)What kind of motherboard do have, ECS is just not enough information, from what it sounds like right now, the CPU might not be compatible with the motherboard. If you have a modem in your pc, take it out. If a modem gets fried from a surge of power, the computer might not turn on like you are saying.

Reply: (edit)N2U400-A ECS Motherboard. AMD Sempron 2800+ (2ghz). There is no modem, however I do have a USB 2.0 card, a Tsunami Diamand DT-688 sound card, and a D-Link Ethernet card. All of which were functioning properly last time my computer was working. Would it be worth my money/time to maybe take my computer to BestBuy or Fry's to get it checked out?

Reply: (edit)The answer to the VGA card being bad is that anything is possible. Did you say you pulled the BIOS chip out? Not a great idea without the proper tool. I suggest stripping the machine down to the bare minimum with the MB out of the case. MB with HS/fan, 1 stick of RAM and video card. No other cards or cables, no drives. Try to POST. If no post, try different memory. Then different video card. If still no go, try different PSU. Also, consider response #1. Finally, don't waste your money on Bestbuy techs. Don't know anything about Fry's.

Reply: (edit)I had the same problem and just happened to overlook one thing. The ECS N2U400-A requires an ATX2 power, which is an additional 12 volt power connection to the motherboard, it is a 4 pin connector. If you have a recent powersupply it should provide you with the wiring. You may have wondered what that extra cable was for coming out of your power supply? If you already tried that, then I apologize for the obvious, but I have built 50 or so systems and this was my first experience with an ATX2 connector. I hope that helps
