Comment: HI, I have this major problem. A month ago i bought a a7v266-e mobo + amd 1600+. From first time starting up, i kept getting in my bios, saying the processor speed is to high?? and bios puts it back to 1050 Mhz instead of 1400.If i restart with 1400 it does start up!?! Only after shutting down from xp and booting up again i get in bios. Whatever i did, updating bios, jumper settings, still that problem. So i went to the store to change to mobo. Now i have this a7v266-ex, and still i have the problem. Now i got bios setting on "hold on - never" and sometimes i get in bios and sometimes not, kinda weird. So now im thinking, maybe my procesor is indeed not suided and cant handle 133x10.5. Does anyone had the same experience or know more?? Thank you very much for some info.

Reply: (edit)I think that your MOBO CPU frequency is stuck at 100MHz. I downloaded your MOBO manual from ASUS. On page 18 of the manual, you can enable JumperFree mode, which allows the processor settings to be made through the BIOS. On page 19, are the jumper settings for setting the CPU frequency to 133.33MHz and also for setting the multiplier. On page 20 are jumper settings for CPU type. On page 58 are BIOS setup instructions for your CPU frequency and multiplier. I’d go over the jumpers on the MOBO very carefully and then confirm them in BIOS. I bet that something is incorrectly set on the MOBO or in the BIOS or that there is a conflict between the MOBO jumpers and the BIOS settings.

Reply: (edit)I would goto the asus's website and download a bios update for your motherboard. It obviously is not correctly seeing your processer. When you enable speed error hold, you are bypassing the motherboard lookup of the processer. Goto www.asus.com and download the bios update, that should cure it

Reply: (edit)I don't know how I got to this forum but I'm sure glad I did. I have an Athlon XP 1700 and am running Win XP. I haven't had any problems for 4 months and all of a sudden I've gotten the same problem of not being able to boot up, restarting the machine and automatically getting into the Bios setting with a message regarding wrong CPU speed. I'm now just starting to investigate how to fix this and will try setting the jumpers. I've got a bad feeling about this...

Reply: (edit)Good News. The problem was fixed by manually setting the CPU speed. Better yet, I used the Asus Bios Live Update program that came on the CD and flashed the Bios with the latest version. I was then able to take the CPU speed off manual settings and the Bios was able to detect the CPU and my computer is back to normal. If this hasn't or doesn't work for you make sure first that you've followed the instructions for loading the Bios setup defaults in the Bios Settings when you reboot your system after a Bios update. Otherwise, I suggest you E-mail Asus Support regarding your particular CPU since I think that the problem is with the Bios not being able to read the CPU info.
