CPU/Ram: athlon xp 3100+ 512 ddr32

i was wondering if a celeron d 3.4 ghz w/ 533 fsb would be better than my athlon xp 3100+ w/ 200 fsb.

As far as I know, there is no Athlon XP 3100+, unless it's one of those OEM "undocumented" CPUs like the 2900+. There's a 3100+ socket 754 Sempron based on the Athlon 64 though...if that's what you mean, I think I'd go with the 3100+

I guess if you can overclock the hell out of that celeron D to say a 4ghz then you can turn it into some sort of cheap solid gaming machine. I seen some pretty good numbers in gaming benchmarks when someone I read online took a 3ghz Celeron D and overclcoked it to 3.8, but of coruse you will need a good heat sink and fan setup not to mention some case fans
