Hi Guys,

What would be the best motherboard to overclock a Pentium D 805?

I was thinking either a Gigabyte GA-P31-S3L / Gigabyte GA-G31MX-S2 I631 or an ASUS P5WD2 Premium

Any help would be great, i'm a bit of a newbie at this!

Cheers

Me Again, how about a ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP? Also any other suggestions gratefully received.

My vote would be with ASUS. I cant look up any specs from where I am at right now, but anything based on the 945 and up should do just fine. The P5L series is a good choice for Pentium 4 CPU's

But if you are on a real tight budget, than you could get away with anything based on an 865 chipset and up. I would stay away from the sis and via chipset boards for stability reasons.

ASUS > Gigabyte

Cool, thanks, think I might go for the ASUS P5LD2 SE R2.0 i945P Socket 775 6-channel audio ATX Motherboard.

Only £41 too!

Just because you have an "old" CPU, you don't have to get a board based on an "old" chipset. Look for a board based on the P965 or P35 chipset instead. After you find a board that's in your price range, do some googling...use the model number & include the words 'overclock' & 'review' in the search. Look for results from hardware websites rather than forums. I also recommend that you go to the manufacturer's website & download the manual BEFORE you buy. That way you can look over the BIOS section to see if the necessary overclock options are available.
