best memory combo

Specs: Windows XP
I have an Athlon 64-3200 with one bank of 512MB DDR 2700 memory (it can run 3200). Would it be better to:
1) add 1GB of 3200 to the second slot, or
2) scrap the 512-2700 and replace with two new 512-3200's?

I don't play games or do any real graphic work - just the normal browsing, email, casually manage 1 to 5MB photos, etc. - so I'm assuming there is not much added value in jumping to 2GB total. Your thoughts, please.

Ideally, you should run PC3200 with an Athlon64. For some odd reason HP supplied PC2700 with a lot of their A64 systems. Obviously it works but you take a minor performance hit because of it.

If you pair up PC3200 with PC2700, both will run as PC2700. Considering the cost of DDR RAM & the fact that you're not a gamer or "power user", go with whichever is cheapest.
