i have a new asus p4p800 deluxe board which is awesome for overclocking would like to know your thoughts on best cooling systems
p4 2.8ghz 800fsb
asus p4p800 deluxe MB
1gb pc 3200 400mhz ddr ram
80gb seagate hdd
panasonic dvd-ram
mitsubishi 52x24x52 cdrw
ram is running in dual channel
win xp pro

Once again the greatest superhero alive comes to the rescue!
Good choice going with Pentium 4.It is simply the BEST there is, The best there was, the best there ever will be untill Prescott. To cool your proccessor you only need two words. SLK-900(U) and a Tornado 119 cfm fan. Make sure the slk-900(u) fits on your motherboard(you can verify this at thermalright.com). Also make sure you get a fan controller for your 119cfm because its 56.5 db and it will be very NOISY.
The Normal temps with slk is around 18 c idle and 34 c load for p4 systems. You can even oc that to 3.4ghz with the slk.
Hope this helps :)

If slk dosent fit, go get the Thermal Spark P4 series from thermaltake more info at thermaltake.com
Hope this helps :)

"The Normal temps with slk is around 18 c idle and 34 c load for p4 systems. You can even oc that to 3.4ghz with the slk."
Where did you get this information?
1) The ability to oc is not entirely based on temp. The chip has a lot to do with it.
2) The 18C idle and 34C have no basis, or do they?
3. The 56db is rated at free standing. It sounds much louder when there is resistance, i.e. the heatsink.Surely the 2.8 could easily reach 3.4 as the 2.4 could easily reach 3.2. Asus P4P800 reports slightly lower temp by comparison. Any copper based heatsink that meets Intel maximum weight will do the job in keeping the processor within good operating temperature when room temp is maintained below 30 C.
Enjoy the Asus board and the 2.8 clocked to 3.4 or 3.6 just with your Intel copper base cooler or something like the slk800u with a sub 3000 rpm 80mm fan as the PC3200 won't get you to 1:1 ratio anyway.

Hang on, weren't you seeking an AMD solution recently? Who are you to make such a claim? Oh I forgot, your the "greatest superhero alive", the one who hasn't the crainial capacity to do his own research.

That I would like to see, do you have a link to support your claim? Come to think of it, yes that would be possible, in sub 10°C ambient conditions. Anyway, thats my two cents, knowing my luck I'll probably be banned.

I'm using a Zalman 7000Cu on my 2.4C. I can go up to 3.36 GHz with temps 32C idle and 45C full load. It's quiet and has a better fin design than the SLK series because the fins are more spreaded. The 18C idle is possible when 1)room temp is ~10C; 2)temp sensor is malfunctioning. Like real_cool said, the 3200 ram won't get you far 1:1, but 5:4 is always there for you to try.

"The Normal temps with slk is around 18 c idle"
if that's true then I need to put a few idling P4 systems in my house so I can turn off the air conditioning and just let the P4s cool me down.
According to silentpcreview the zalman 7000 or the slk900 with a thermaltake smartfan2 are about equally effective at low noise levels, though the zalman looks cooler. For max overclocking the slk900/sf2 combo is better since the fan will crank up to 75cfm. I see no reason to get a fan that goes beyond 75cfm, since you won't be able to tolerate the noise even at that level.

"Okay if i got a p4 3.0ghz 800mhz fsb would i expect any speed increases from the amd 64 fx-51? What is the average temp the p4 runs at with stock cooler? How much can it overclock?
You are the only guys who can help me. Iam about to spend 800 bucks on my dream machine so please help me out here"The same guy posted the above two days ago. Two days later he claimed normal a system running 18C idle and 34C loaded clocked to 3.4ghz. Amazing how much experience one could gain in two days.

Utterly amazing.
johnoh, you must live pretty close to me. It was only mid 80's in Fresno today...nearly winter.
