Subject: Barton 2800 FSB Question
OS: Windows XP
CPU/Ram: Barton 2800 XP
Comment:

I currently have an AMD Barton 2800 XP on a Gigabyte K7 Triton - KT600 Mobo. I have it all up and running but am not sure if my FSB is set right on the motherboard.
There is a small swith on the mobo which is titled "SW1" and is currently on the Default setting which is 100mhz. It can be flipped to another position which is OFF/Auto which says supports higher FSB's.
Can someone please tell me if I need the switch set to auto if i want to tge thte most out of the PC and if I need to do anything else to configure it.
Many Thanks in advance.

The 2800+ is supposed to run at 2083mhz (12.5 x 166mhz). If your FSB is at 100mhz, your CPU is only running at 1250mhz (12.5 x 100). Change the switch setting to AUTO, & your CPU should be clocked to the correct speed.

Download this program to verify your clock settings:

OK Thanks. That program is great. Just one more thing, it says in the maual for the MOBO to have the switch set to ON when using an FSB 200mhz CPU. So does this mean I cannot switch it to OFF/AUTO or should it still work if I do?
Many Thanks

DDR speeds complicate things. When they say FSB 200Mhz CPU, they mean a FSB 100Mhz CPU, which is why the switch is there. I have a GA-7N400Pro2 with the same switch and it needs to be in OFF/AUTO.

XPFreak:
What processor are you using on that board?
