OS: XP PRO
CPU/Ram: 256 3200 BArton 2600
Comment:

Hi i just bought a new mobo, ram and processor:

AMD 'barton' XP 2600+ 333FSB 512k L2 cache
Asus A7N8X v.2 mobo (support for 400 FSB Barton)
Northbridge :Nvidia NFORCE 2 SPP (Ultra 400) chipset
Southbridge: Nvidia NFORCE 2 MCP chipset
Corsair XMS pc 3200 DDR C2 , 256mb stick RAM

I am having trouble overclocking this thing!

Ok I go into my bios and advanced chipset...and Set my external clock frequency to 166(333DDR) and my multiplier to 11.5. All works fine, it shows up as an XP 2600+ and all. (This is the default speed)

If I put my FSB up even 1 Mhz, My computer wont even reboot after saving the settings (I get the monitor self test screen, and my monitor eventually goes into standby). So I have to manually power off then back on. I get a message saying computer wasnt shut down properly and processor speeds are running at safe mode (1.15ghz), and I need to go correct my cpu settings.

My Core voltage is set to 1.65.

Is there anything else that you need to know before you can help me?
Why can I not raise my FSB?
Do I need to set my core voltage a tad higher?
What in the heck am I doing wrong?
Any suggestions, or anything that I am missing?

Your help is appreciated greatly!

1) Corsair DDRs do not like 2.5V at all. In fact, 2.7 is the minimum it requires (look up their website when you try RMA).
2) Try high latency settings until you reach the highest FSB. Come back to play with timmings.

My Ram isnt giving me problems, is it? I have heard rumors that 2600s are locked after week 39-mines a week 41- any way to get around a locked multiplier? Cant you still overclock without using the multiplier? My problem is with the

No one has figured out a way to unlock the Barton yet, so all you have to work with is the FSB...you should have no problem at 200mhz (400DDR) with the default voltage...

I would try increasing the memory voltage as suggested & see if that helps...

I really see no point in increasing the FSB only 2mhz...

...If u even read the original post then you would know that it wouldnt even let me increase my FSB 1 mhz, so how would it let me increase by 2. SO 166-168 is a marginal improvement over not even being able to increase by 1 mhz.

I did read your original post & I gave you my suggestions. Did you raise your memory voltage as recommended by real_cool?

My memory voltage has always been 2.7 as a default. Seems as if It was being fickle, now it is letting me up the FSB. However I have confirmed that my multiplier is locked at 11.5. Thanks for the help.
