Is there any real advantage to getting the Barton 2500 core as opposed to the 2700 Thourobred? I've read the 2700 beats it in performace. Is the 2500 Barton better for overclocking??

The 2700+ runs at a higher clock speed (2167mhz) but only has 256kb of L2 cache...the Barton runs at 1833mhz but has 512kb of L2 cache. They both run at 166mhz FSB (333 DDR). The newest Bartons manufactured after week 39 (I think?) are multiplier locked, so that limits your overclocking options. The T-bred is also more expensive by about $20. I'm not sure how much an improvement the L2 cache makes, but if you wanna overclock, the T-bred may be the better choice.
Let's see what some others say...

i lean towards the 2500, probably because i have one...plus the 2700 is $35-$50 more than the 2500 at 2 different local stores
you get the right nforce2 mobo and ddr400 memory, you can overclock to 400 mhz fsb and run in sync with your memory or you can go even higher
i got a pretty decent overclock of 200 X 11 @ stock vcore,vdimm,etc....also have a good cooling solution
Summary: I currently have a barton 2500+, but a friend has a spare 2800+ tbred he'll give me for free. I know the tbred has half of the L2 cache as the barton, which is a pretty big deal. Also, my barton will ...
Summary: Newer is almost always better. Not only will my Barton 2500+ run at speeds way in excess of the 3200+ stock speeds, the extra cache IS a lot faster in many apps. Gotta use an nForce2 Ultra 400 based ...
Summary: im thinkin of buying a Barton 2500 with 2 sticks of 256mb either pc3200 or pc2700 ive got a MSI K7N2 capable of 200FSB wud the barton run at that without getting any corruption on the pci slot with th...
