Comment: After reading what most everyone else is pushing, I guess I'm okay. I have an Asus A7N8X mb, AMD Barton 2500+ set at 200 fsb, 11x, 1.65v. I'm registering as a 3200+ @2200mhz, 46'c idle, 51'c load with the stock HSF. I'm running WXP with a gig of RAM. I thought that may be a bit high, so I just ordered a Thermaltake Silent Boost A1889 and Arctic Silver 3. How much cooler should I realistically expect?

Reply: (edit)Your temps are really okay with stock cooler. But, here is one of the many reviews of your new cooler. http://www.techtastic.ca/reviews2/silent-boost2.html It depends on your case ventilation. A good heatsink only gets more heat off of your processor to warm up your case nicely if case ventilation is poor. And, the warm air taken from the processor is recycled to "cool" the exact item it comes from.

Reply: (edit)Your temps are fine with a stock HSF. The fan is a little weak on the Booster, but hey, it's silent. I think you will see about 3~6C drop in temps if you do things right with the AS3 and the cooler.

Reply: (edit)I use KN air filters in my 750 v4 Magna, 280Z and GMC 4x4. I tweak the engines with larger injectors, etc. And, I make sure I take care of the coolings with increase hosepower. It's like overclocking my computers. But, I will be darn stupid to limit my full throttle, or lower my perfect idle just to save gas or keep my engines running cool. There are other ways to keep my overclocked engines cool. It is the wrong way to keep my CPU running cool by using a software that keeps it in sleep mode. And, when I kick the performance up I face the same issue "heat". I could understand this is needed in a laptop to prolong battery usage, certainly for an overclocked desktop. With a good case, a willing processor, understanding of air flow and a decent quiet cooler 30-60% overclocked speed should be easily attainable.
