Subject: bad cpu?
OS: XP
CPU/Ram: duron1.3
Comment:

can a damaged or bad cpu cause error in one's OS? I've been receiving a otn of error messges for 98,linux, and XP. In XP i get meeaages abotu page fault, irq, and now "PROCESS1_INTIALLIZATION_FAILED." I've removed all cards from the motherboard, swapped the ram (w/ a known working one) disabled bios cache features, and still receiving errors. I even receive errors (irq, pagefualt, etc) wehn i try to reinstall xp using the cd boot feature, way before it even begins to install the OS (usually @ the main menu of the boot screen)
what do u goys think could be the problem? I'm using a duron 1.3 w/ a pcchips mobo (brand new)

It's quite possible that one's cpu may cause such errors through cpu misscalculations. Try running a cpu benchmark program and look for similar errors cropping up. If no errors, run the program for a longer period, 80 to 100 cycles in sandra for instance. Ok goy!

Rod,

I don't think so. If your Duron is improperly installed and temps are high (in the mid 60°C range or above) it is possible, but usually you just see the machine slow down or freeze.

I would like to know how much and what type memory you have and which hdd.

I just haven't seen processors fail since the P60 and Cyrix days.

hey man,
I've been using kingston 128 (this one is form my computer)and I'm still having the same problems. I even replace the motherboard recently and I'm having similar prolems. I've never seen anything like it before. I've ran the memory test program and everything was normal. No memory errors.

i've also tried booting the xp cd w/ out the hdd to see what happens. I still get error. So I've narrowed it down to the board, CPU, or RAM. I've replaced the board and ram, so I guess the CPU is next. From my past building experince I've never seen a bad cpu act this way.

( I switch the mainboards from an Asus a7v-ve to a pc chip mATX (forgot the number)

Boo PC Chips boards!!!........I ALWAYS have problems with them. Maybe just my luck but I WILL NEVER buy another one.

Good luck finding the problem.
