I recently got an old Aopen computer for free just to use and i was wondering what i could do to it. I can't find the model anywhere on it and i just know it is an "Authentic amd AMD-K6 tm 3D Processor" with 128 PC100 mb of RAM and it says it is in "Normal mode".

What can do to this thing?

The original K6 was a 66MHz FSB cpu and goes up to 300MHz.

The next model was the K6-2 which had 66, 95 or 100MHz FSB and they go up to 550MHz.

The last was the K6-3 with 100MHz FSB. I only know it up to 450MHz but the table I found on the net a while ago says it got up to 550MHz.
This was the fastest of the three because it had the most transistors of the three!

I have an old K6-2 500MHz but couldn't OC it to 550MHz. Lately I found that I may have needed to raise the VCore quite drastically. But I don't think it's worth to risk it for that little difference!
I also got it for free nearly a year ago and use it as some sort of music machine. Having it in a very small AT case (2x5,25", 2x3,5" slots) it's easy to transport and should be able to play video too. It has an old AGP Ati Rage128pro ViVo in it but having no DVD-Rom left I haven't tried that yet.
It's slower than a Pentium3 but faster than my old Pentium2 350MHz!

The turbo button was actually allowing the true speed of the CPU. At that time of that computer, some programs were older and didn't run well (or at all) with such a "hi-tech, fast processor" as that one was. So it had to be slowed down for those proggies to run, in which case "Turbo" was turned off.
Leave it on for max speed.

You're not gonna be able to overclock that thing very much & it probably isn't worth it, unless you're just doing it for the learning experience.

You have a K6-2/450mhz "Chomper" that is clocked at 4.5 x 100mhz FSB. If you're lucky, you may hit 500mhz - I doubt you'll get much more out of it than that. You'll probably have to raise the CPU voltage to get it to run stably. I suggest "reclocking" instead. See if you can get it to run at 4 x 112mhz. The CPU will still be at 450mhz, but the higher FSB should give a bit of a performance boost.

"i have no idea what any of that means"

- then I suggest you don't attempt it. Do some research about overclocking 1st. Try Google.

"the turbo button and the light never turns on or off its just doesn't respond"

- it's probably not connected. The turbo feature was for older socket 7 motherboards, you have what's known as a Super 7 board.
