what is the difference between palomino and thoroughbred? i have an athlonxp 2000+ and i don't know if it is palomino or thoroughbred.
ty.

The t-bred came later and is smaller, runs a little cooler and is more overclockable.
You can tell which you have by going into bios under pc health (your mobo may call it something different) to find your voltages. The vcore of Palominos is 1.75v. The vcore of the xp2000 t-bred is 1.6v or 1.65v.

Or you can download sisoft sandra, install it, and run the CPU & Bios information module. The cpu info details will be reported in the first 10 lines or so.

Yes, i was trying to optimize the core, so i changed the multiplyer to 16 * 133 =2128 Mhz, but the fan started to act weird and i turned it off, after a while smoke came out and i unplugged, i tried once more but this time with the multiplyer on 17 * 133 = 2261, this time with a non representive performance, how can this be, is my motherboard to slow???
by the way i have a xp2100

If you took the cpu fan off and later smelled smoke, that was the frying of your non-thermally protected amd cpu. btw you are attempting cpu oc jumps that are too much at once.

Message to Arne: Your joking right??....RIGHT!!?? Anyways, if anybody has been able to use a higher multiplier than the default 13 on their xp2100, I would like to know how. I run on air cooling so I run mine at 12.5 * 166 fsb at 1.625 volts. When I benchmark I run it at 12.5 * 180 fsb @ 1.775 volts. This is with a Epox mb with nforce chipset. The 2100 is a great oc'er (the thouroughbred that is)
