Reply: (edit)Get the Northwood P4 1.6GHZ with 512K cache and don't get an Intel mainboard so you can overclock past 2GHZ. Really, you get what you pay for!

Reply: (edit)I think that you would be better off with the Athlon if you WEREN’T overclocking but the P4 will probably overclock better than the Athlon.

Reply: (edit)I have an athlon xp 1800 which performs great however after watching the video on toms hardware site which shows 2 pentiums and 2 amd's having there heatsinks removed I think my next build will house a P4 (Scary stuff)

Reply: (edit)As I understand the results, an Intell 1.6 o/c'd to 2.54 and a AMD 1800+ o/c'd to the maximim (approximately to 2100+) both perform about the same. The athlon makes up for its slower speed by being quad pumped. Intel seams to do better on business type applications, AMD on Games. The athlon cost less but cost gets closer, when you add in the extra fans, heat sink etc needed for the athlon. No heat problems with the P-4, but you can still have heat problems with graphic cards etc. Just my 2 cents worth. Six of one, a ½ dozen of the other. I may build another Intel system this fall, unless AMD's Barton or Hammer live up to the hype.
