I have a AMD Athlon xp 1800 At the moment. I have seen a computer that i wish to buy soon. i am a hardcore gamer and play games like cod2, fear, oblivion. Is a Intel® Pentium® Core 2 Duo E6300 better for games than a Xp 1800+

hey its an unfair contest.
1800 Vs Core 2 duo?
CobraR already answered that Q.
these 2 CPUs are from different generations and it is wholly unfair (and stupid) to compare them. The only area in which a 1800 wins is in cost. If you already have a working 1800, you need not spend money on it. If you must buy a core 2, then you must spend money on it. :D

Yes, a rather stupid question.
gmanych1,
Hopefully you're aware that upgrading to a Core2 will require a complete rebuild...motherboard, CPU, RAM, video card, power supply.

I bet gmanych1 doesn't trust himself with a screwdriver, let alone attempting a PC build. He sure is looking at a retail computer purchase ;-)
