Subject: Athlon XP 2600+ reading at 1250MHz! OS: Win2000 w/SP3 CPU/Ram: Athlon XP 2600+/512MB PC2

Comment: My question is basically stated in the topic: My Athlon XP 2600+ processor is reading at a measly 1250MHz. I have a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP motherboard, and have installed EasyTune 4; I've tried to raise the FSB in both the BIOS and by using ET4, and both crash my system. In the BIOS, I am only allowed to raise it to 132, and after saving to CMOS and rebooting, the system beeps consistently for about 20 seconds, then comes back up with default FSB settings. With ET4, I can get it to stabalize at about 115MHz, but higher than that and my system will freeze and my monitor will turn black. I've done research on this, and everything I see says to raise the FSB from the default 100MHz (should be 12.5*166 for 2Ghz), but as you can see, I apparently do not know how. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Reply: (edit)Is the ram speed going up with the fsb or did you turn it down to the right speed?? if not turn it down and make sure it's only gets to it's stock speed when the cpu does.

Reply: (edit)I didn't do that last time, in the bios.. I'll try that. But in Easytune 4, it does auto-optimize after you select your desired fsb speed.. I'd imagine it'd do that automatically..

Reply: (edit)Don't use easy tune 4 i have it with my sinxp1394 and my 8knxp and it has only givin me problems. it causes the agp/pci bus to go up and doesn't keep it locked. atleast on my board. anyway it's way easier to do it in the bios. check to see if that easy tune messed with the agp/pci bus and put it back and lock it at 33/66 if it's changed.

Reply: (edit)Yeah, I had problems even getting it to work at first. The only reason I messed with it was because the BIOS would only let me go up to 132mhz. Hopefully the ram and/or agp/pci bus fixes will make it work. If not, I'm gonna have to remove everything but the ram, hdds, and agp, and see if it'll let me go to 166.. The thing that sucks, is I can't reply again until monday (internet at school).

Reply: (edit)Check to see if there is a jumper on the mobo for 100, 133, 166, or auto. Its possible the mobo is using a 3:1 ratio for fsb:pci.

Reply: (edit)the cpu must run at 166 mhz x 12,5 Try an ABIT Motherboard or an ASROCK like K7S8X . The DDR 2700 at 166 Mhz the 3100 at 333 Mhz With SDRAM on a K7S5A for example it's very difficult. Somme motherboards authorise orverclocking the CPU. Be carrefull

Reply: (edit)I have the same board. Mine came from the factory with the system bus set to the default speed at 100MHz. You need to set the system bus switch to 166MHz. That switch is located on the lower right portion of the motherboard. Mine is blue in color with 2 white switches. #1 switch should be in the "off" position and the #2 switch in the "on" position to achieve 166MHz. Page 9 in the manual gives you a diagram with the correct settings. This should fix it!
