Comment: Athlon XP 2600+ Barton core on Asus A7N8X-delux mobo and have overclocked to 200fsb and boots fine to windows but shuts down after about 1 min. I am thinking of getting the ASUS STAR ICE and raising cpu threshold to 75c becaus AMD states 85c as max for 2600 barton. does anyone know if this will run stable becaus sys runs fine @ 190fsb and mult is locked @ 11.5 and vcor is (1.70 if i'm not mistaken) and i don't want to purchase star ice if not needed. mantice

Reply: (edit)Increase the CPU voltage (vcore) 0.025v at a time until your system becomes stable. And get some PC3200 RAM. PC2700 will bottleneck the system. There's not much point running the CPU at 200MHz if the RAM is only running at 166MHz. This space for rent

Reply: (edit)thanks for the replys, i am planning on testing the system with a pc3200. my other concern is the temp with a higher vcor. is AMD's statement ok to go with ( 85C ) as max? what is a good temp to make sure to stay below... mantice

Reply: (edit)also does anyone know how to unlock the mult on the 2600 barton? I have read articles on using window derost paint and cutting certain L jumpers but can't seem to get a fix on a "true" unlock... mantice

Reply: (edit)I have tested with pc3200 and am now posting this comment using these settings: 2600 barton; 200fsb 1g pc3700 and A7N8X-delux mobo. temps are steady @ 51C and raised temps on my 6800. Back to my original question...does anyone know what actual max temp on AMD athlon 2600 barton? mantice

Reply: (edit)thanks for that last response...I have the AXDA2600DKV4D and it looks like I will get the star ice after all just to help keep the temp down on my nvidia 6800. Thanks for your help... mantice

Reply: (edit)There is NO way to unlock the multi on your CPU. AMD states 85C as the "max die temp". Most people don't become concerned unless they're CPU starts climbing into the 60's. Is the 51C reading at idle or under load? How many case cooling fans do you have? How are they arranged? The GPU on the video card runs hot...that's normal. You didn't post a temp so it's impossible to say whether you have anything to worry about or not. This space for rent

Reply: (edit)the temp on the 6800 was @ 58c (overclocked with the extra pipes and shader unlocked and clocked @400 with memory @790) and the cpu @190fsb, it goes higher @200fsb... the cooling fans are: 3 ( 2 in back are on adjustable controller and one in front controlled by mobo. the temps are 51@ idle for the cpu @ 200 the goes up after futuremark cpu testing. is there any good coolers out there other than the star ice that i have missed? the star ice looks good and gets good reviews thats the only reason i may buy it. mantice

Reply: (edit)I doubt you need it, but if it will make you feel better, go for it. As for your FSB...like I said, if you're running the CPU at 190MHz (or 200MHz) & your RAM at 166MHz, you're not getting the best performance outta your system. Ditch the PC2700 & replace it with PC3200, then run both the CPU & RAM at 200MHz (or higher). This space for rent

Reply: (edit)thanks again for your input i'll post again when i get the updates and list settings when i find a stable groupset...(fsb-vcor-cooling...)we will see how high i can get the 2600 to go, so far i posted @ 2.32g but with your input i think i may as well get the extra cooling... and boost up with new ram... mantice
