Comment: My AMD Athlon XP 2000+ processor runs at 65C for a normal application load and it gets up to 75C when I run games. (This is after I underclocked my processor to 1250MHz. It was worse before at 1600MHz) I am using the fan and heatsink I got with my processor. Should I replace my fan and heatsink?

Reply: (edit)umm..... i think you faultly install the heatsink and fan. Check the manual and make sure the Heatsink and the fan working probably. And make sure the fan is spinning. I also have a stock HS/F. my CPU (AMD Athlon XP 2100+) temperature is 56 C idle up to 63 C with full load! (i also have case exhaust case fan at the back, too)

Reply: (edit)I bought a cheap 10 buck cooler down here in AUS, with a fan that runs @ 4100rpm and temps are around 40 - 55 at the most! Although I have a 200mm 240volt ceiling fan attached to my case, it only brings down temps a few degrees. Try a new heatsink rated for that processor and some thermal compound, that should do it :0)

Reply: (edit)A new HSF will do you no good if you internal case temps are too high. Do you have case fans installed? If not, you should do that before replacing the HSF. Also, thermal paste is better than the pad that comes preinstalled on many heatsinks.

Reply: (edit)So if I just get some thermal paste and put it on my existing heatsink will it help?

Reply: (edit)Yikes! You aren't using thermal compound of any kind? If not, that is the source of your problem. Get some sort of thermal compound ASAP and you should see a significant temperature drop.

Reply: (edit)Have a look at the coolermaster range? Go for something like the V81, or L61. That's your best bet. Maybe add a couple of 80mm fans, one at front and one at back? Good luck.

Reply: (edit)I've been having the same problem and my computer keeps shutting off, except my temps. are normally between 40 and 48. I've bought a cooler master heatsink and fan combo and recently an antec plus 1080AMG case in the hopes of keeping it cooler but the problem is still occuring. i also have my cpu underclocked at 1250 because of this problem. any help would be appreciated.

Reply: (edit)im form the philippines where it usually gets 40C with 100% humidity, and i donthave airconditioning on my room....(hell...thats what it is) and i got an athlon 2.1. my temp is running at 56C,and it hasnt given me any problem at all! sometimes i run my PC for 48hours straight and it still goes well... what ive got is an GlobalWIN SAK38 Forged Copper Based Heatsink...i got it for only 15$...dont even have a system fan on my PC! as long as it dont get up to 67+ C, i think AMD is fine....my advice though, get a large case with a fan sucking in air at the bottom-front, and another at the back sucking air out...then get a heatsink simillar to mine...its got to be made out of copper at the base, while the fins are made out of aluminum...top it off with a good fan...(actually any fan will do) the reason behind this is that: 1) copper has a hiher rate (more than 100%) of heat absorption than aluminum while...2) aluminum gets rid of heat faster than copper. so a copper based-aluminum heat sink ( dont forget the thermal paste) should do the job! for anyone interested, email me and ill send you off to some links.....
