I have recently used my bios settings to overclock my processor. I have got it from 1667mhz to 2083mhz. ASUS Probe states my CPU is running at 53 degrees C and I am concerned that this is too high. My CPU fan however can run at 6000 RPM but is running at 4458 RPM. Should I increase my fan speed? If so could someone tell me if there are any utilities that I can do it with?
BTW, my system has been overclocked for 2 weeks now and has had no problems running any games or software.

that temp is on the high side, but i dont think it is high enough that there is concern, especially if your programs and games are running fine. if you wish to increase fan speed, you must do so in the bios. i dont beleive there is any software interface to enable you to do so. as i said, though, i wouldn't worry too much about that temp. its on the high side of cpu temps, but not enough for concern, i dont beleive.
Argue for your limitations and sure enough, they're yours.

How about some more details...what board, what HSF, how many case fans & how are they arranged, what's the average room temp & system temp?
ASUS A7N8X-X
Athlon XP 1800+
8.5 x 200MHz
1280MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7
Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB
WinME/WinXP Pro SP1

Dragon306: I cannot change it in BIOS, I was searching for ages.
Jam: I am doing my A+ currently and I still don't know what HSF means. My system is as follows:
ASUS A7N8X-X
Athlon XP 2000+ Barton Core I think
CPU fan is the AMD one that came with it
CPU is set at 12.5 x 166 =2075mhz
1GB Corsair Value Ram (not o/clocked)
Nvdia FX 5200 128MB
XPH SP2It is kept in a pretty cool attic room and when it gets too warm the air con comes on. Average room temp is around 22*C. I have one extra case fan on the back. The side of the case is usually kept off. I have rounded cables and the rest of the cables are tied back and under control.

yo
HSF is Heatsink/Fan wich is the metal thing under your fan that conducts heat and the Fan, which blows away the heat.
You should turn on the side fan. it helps a lot. I got (almost) the same computer as you, except it's a Palomino core processor. and the... ok its not the same.
Make sure your side fan is blowing IN towards the computer. If not, just unscrew it, flip it around. you can figure out the rest i think.4000RPM with ur fan is pretty high to keep your CPU down at 53c. Mine is at 2400RPM and doing mid 40c's. It actually isn't fan speed, its more like how much air it pushes =p
However, only if your temp reaches 65c should it be of major concern.**If you want some serious overclocking, get a powerful household use fan on "high" and point it directly into your case.**

Thanks for the reply Jin:
I have the case fan blowing in but the thing is, I havent cut out the bit of the case it is on, so it is like a fan grill but it hasnt got much air flow to it, I am stuck to find something to use to cut it out. I tried a hacksaw and a jigsaw. But the holes arent big enough. Here is an attempted diagram of the grill with the * defining holes

* * * *It is actually part of the case so if I remove it it should increase the airflow, maybe if I get a plastic tube thing to direct the air onto the cpu area.
I have air con so it cools the room but yesterday I took the desk fan and had it blowing air into the open side of the pc directly onto the m/board. It dropped 3 degrees only!
Could you tell me how I can find out the temp when it is at full load (playing San Andreas on high spec). I usually have a game like FM 2005 running and winamp on also and it copes fine, the emergency cut out is 70*c and it hasnt got to that yet.
I downloaded a cpu program thing that you leave running for 2 - 3 hrs and it tests the stability of your cpu, it cam through fine. I also got 14,600 from the 3D marks thing. I am terrible with remembering names.

There are several things that you can do to get the heat down....
One it to use Arctic Silver thermal compound, this is a paste the goes in between you CPU die (the square plain metal top to you CPU) and the base of the HSF
http://gameloaded.co.uk/UK_Arctic_Silver_V_4724.htm
This should lower you temp by around 3c-5c
The other it=s to buy a better heat sink and fan, something like this....Volcano 7...This should lower you temp by 7c
http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/volcano7plus.php
The other this you can do is to try lapping you HSF...(this means to polish the bottom of you heat sink to a mirror like Finnish) this should lower the CPU temp by another 5c...
http://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/heatsinklappingguide.php
Hope that helps you out...If you have the time and money why do do all of them. This will make for a cool CPU which will run more stabley....and there is a rule of thumb that says for every 10c you lower the temp of you CPU you double the its life...
