Hi,
I have set the motherboard (ASUS A7V333) to a jumperless mode.
When running the comp at a CPU (Athlon XP 2000+) speed of 1250, I do not have any problems whatsoever.
However, when I change the CPU speed to 1667, at times I get a beeping sound when working with documents or firing up an application.
I have 512 MB DDR 333 MHz double-sided RAM installed.
The video graphics adapter is a GEForce4 MX 440 with 64 MB DDR memory.
The hardisk is a 40 GB barracuda 7200 RPM.I know from reading different technical whitepapers and forums, that an Athlon XP 2000+ CPU should comfortably run at 1667 MHz. But I am unable to do so because of the irritating beeping sound which is erratic. Sometimes its there and sometimes not.
Any suggestions/valuable advice?
Thanks in advance.
Ciao.

I had almost the same problem with my 8knxp. when i first bought it when it loaded windows for the first time i got that beeping..as soon as a program started it would beep. it seemed to be only happening when the hard drive was sending data. i thought maybe i connected the hard drive led wire wrong but that wasn't it. i found that when i had the smart fan option on in my bios..which controls the fan speed according to temps, it made the beeping noise..turned it off and it went away. but then i tried turning it on a couple weeks ago and it doesn't happen anymore??? weird

Hey Kevn,
Thanks for the reply.
I dont have a smart fan option in my bios (motherboard ASUS A7V33 bios version 1018 beta 1) but there's a Q fan option which just lets you enable/disable. No idea what it does. And switching to either state doesn't help.
I removed the side of the casing and have directed a large fan to draw out the heat from inside the unit. And for the last 3-4 hours, I cant hear the beep no more.
But frankly speaking, I cant zero in on this as the definiteive solution. Im sure a more logical and technical explanation exists somewhere in cyberspace.
Thanks for your inputs anyways.

try reading the manual to see what the beeping means, it could mean the processor is overheating but im not sure

Partial solution...Hi folks.
I've discovered a partial solution, owing a lot to serendipity rather than technical prowess.
Looking very closely, I found out that a lot of dust had accumulated on the blades of the fan that sits over the CPU. So I became adventurous and took it off. I was encounetered with gobs and gobs of dust!
Guess what? I diligently and patiently cleaned them off with an old toothbrush and voila, I was able to increase the RPM of the CPU fan from about 4930 to 5100. A pretty good increase which probably helped in keeping the CPU a bit more cooler than before.
So no more beeping sounds now, although the ASUS Probe and another utility called Hmonitor, both display the CPU fan below threshold. I guess thats ok as long as there is no beeping, which is a sure sign that something is wrong, mostly attributed to overheating of the CPU.
I'm not sure if its the only solution, but it seems to have worked for me just fine. I bet if you open any machine more than 4-6 months old, you're bound to encounter gobs of dust!
Thanks people. Still awaiting a technical understanding though.
Ciao.

try speedfan and/or motherboard monitor...then compare numbers with your bios..bios being the more accurate
