Ok, I have just built and Athlon XP system. Here are the specs:

Abit At7 mobo
Amd Athlon Xp 1800+ model 6
Thermaltake Dragon Orb 3
Aluminum tower case with front side and rear 80mm fans
450 Watt psu
128Mb DDR PC2100 Ram

Ok, I know that my processor is waiting on my memory at this point already, however I would like to try to OC it if I can.

I can change pretty much any setting in the Bios softmenu III by Award

I just need to know were to start as far a Vcore, mulitlpier, and voltage setting are concerned. Is there some type of database that provides info on this stuff? What how much faster can I expect to oc this system?

My temps right now are: System 41'C
CPU 45.0'C

Please help..

You first need to unlock the multipliers on the cpu.Search this forum for links on how to do it.

You don't HAVE to unlock the multiplier to overclock.

Granted, you don't need to unlock the CPU in order to overclock, but overclocking only by raising your FSB severely limits your OC ability due to running PCI and AGP over spec.

With a default of 11.5 x 133, how much farther can one push the FSB before PCI devices begin to fail? Probably not as far as the true OC potential of this CPU after being unlocked.

I'd recommend that you unlock your CPU. Also, do some research on your particular CPU and research what settings others with similar CPU's have had success with.

Have just built up a fairly similar system to what you are describing, I have a setup as follows:

-Athlon XP1800+ thoroughbred A core
-MSI KT4 Ultra motherboard
-Silent Heat-pipe fan by coolermaster
-256mb of PC2700 DDR RAM
-80GB Maxtor Diamondmax plus 9 HD, 8mb buffer
-NVidea GeForce 4 graphics card, 64mb DDR RAM
-the obligitory PSU taht came with teh case
-An old DVD player
-An old CDRW
-two 80mm coolermaster exhaust fans

all in a verre v770 ATX modding case.

I have overclocked it to 1.71ghz as oppose to the standard 1.53ghz.
My CPU voltage is 1.6v
My FSB is set at 171mhz
my multiplier is set to 10
and I have disabled the spread spectrum control. I have raised teh DDR voltage to maximum.

All in all I have a VERY stable system, not a single BSOD so far and it didn't involve any hardware modifications it was all done through the BIOS.

My system temperature has not risen above 45 degrees and my case sits somewhere in teh low 30's.

With the speed I am getting out of it I am just slightly faster than a XP2000+ and just as stable. It is also running at lower temperatures tahn a friends XP2000+ that is not overclocked.

Hope this is of use to you

I believe there is an email link on this if anyone wants anymore details.
